The iconic 190-guest Longships sail the Rhine, Main and Danube — the heart of European river cruising — with adapted sister designs purpose-built for the particular locks and waters of the Douro, the Elbe and the Seine.

North America

The Mississippi

Viking Mississippi — 386 guests in all-outside staterooms — was purpose-built as the first truly modern cruise ship on America’s great river, sailing between New Orleans and St. Paul through the heart of the country.

The Nile

Viking Expeditions

Expeditions with genuine scientific credentials

Octantis and Polaris aren’t just expedition ships — they are working research vessels. Resident scientists sail on every voyage, real research happens on board, and guests are invited to take part. It’s an approach to Antarctica, the Arctic and the Great Lakes that no other line replicates.

Science on board

Each ship carries a working science laboratory, with resident scientists on every voyage conducting research in fields from glaciology to ornithology — in partnership with the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Guests can tour the lab, join workshops and contribute to live research.

A weather station at sea

Through a partnership with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), both ships are sanctioned weather-balloon launch stations — guests gather on the top deck to watch the launches. Below the waterline, onboard instruments continuously sample water quality, feeding data to working scientists.

The Hangar

An in-ship marina lets guests board excursion craft from a sheltered, stable platform rather than a gangway in the swell. The equipment is remarkable: Zodiacs, two-seater kayaks, two 12-seat Special Operations Boats and two six-guest submarines per ship — all complimentary, whichever stateroom you book.
