South Pacific • Direct from New Zealand

The Cook Islands

Barefoot luxury, a direct flight from home.

Fifteen tiny islands strewn across the South Pacific, where the world’s most beautiful lagoon meets a warmth of welcome that keeps New Zealanders returning year after year. Around four hours non-stop from Auckland, spending New Zealand dollars, with no visa to arrange — the Cook Islands are the easiest escape there is.

Tell us how much you’d like us to arrange — just the resort, or your flights, the Aitutaki hop, transfers, lagoon days and travel insurance shaped around it too. Either way, you deal with one consultant who knows these islands well.

Effortless

The easiest escape

Around four hours non-stop from Auckland, New Zealand dollars accepted everywhere, New Zealand power points, and a visa issued on arrival for stays of up to 30 days. Few destinations ask so little of you and give back so much.

The Lagoon

Aitutaki

Often hailed as the most beautiful lagoon in the world — a vast expanse of crystal-clear turquoise scattered with uninhabited white-sand islets. A short scenic flight from Rarotonga, whether for a day cruise or a stay of its own.

Island Time

Culture, kept alive

A vibrant Polynesian culture carefully preserved by its people — Island Night shows, the lively Punanga Nui Market, Sunday hymns in Cook Islands Māori. Rarotonga is just 32 kilometres around: hire a car and the whole island is yours.

Plan your Cook Islands holiday

Our full planning guide covers when to go, getting around, the Rarotonga–Aitutaki hop and more — everything worth knowing before you enquire.

Good to Know

Cook Islands questions, answered

How long is the flight from New Zealand to the Cook Islands?

Around four hours non-stop from Auckland to Rarotonga. The Cook Islands sit 22 hours behind New Zealand Standard Time, so you arrive the day before you left — and your holiday effectively starts a day early.

Do New Zealanders need a visa for the Cook Islands?

No visa needs to be arranged in advance — a tourist visa is issued on arrival for stays of up to 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your departure date from New Zealand.

What currency is used in the Cook Islands?

The New Zealand dollar — no currency exchange needed. Power is 240V with New Zealand-style plugs, so leave the adapters at home too. It’s worth carrying some cash, as not every venue takes card.

When is the best time to visit the Cook Islands?

The drier months from April to October offer the most pleasant conditions — calm, crystal-clear water and lower humidity, perfect for snorkelling and lagoon days. Temperatures stay warm year-round, though November to March can bring tropical showers.

How do I get to Aitutaki?

Aitutaki is a short scenic flight from Rarotonga of around 50 minutes. You can visit on a day trip with a lagoon cruise, or — our recommendation — stay a few nights and have the lagoon to yourself in the mornings. We arrange the inter-island flights alongside your resorts.

Which Cook Islands resorts welcome children?

Fewer than you might expect — many Cook Islands resorts welcome adults only, or guests over 12, 15 or 16. Genuinely family-friendly options include The Edgewater, The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonarium and Pacific Resort Rarotonga. Tell us who’s travelling and we’ll steer you to the right fit first time.

Can Fine Travel arrange just my accommodation, or the whole trip?

Whichever suits you. Some clients ask us for just the resort at wholesale rates; others have us shape the whole trip — flights, the Aitutaki hop, transfers, lagoon cruises and travel insurance. You choose where our help starts and stops.
