When the Qsuite first arrived on the Auckland route, it brought First Class privacy to the Business Class cabin — and nearly a decade on, it remains the benchmark. Here’s what New Zealand travellers need to know in 2026, including the return of Qatar Airways to Auckland and the next-generation Qsuite on the way.
What is the Qsuite?
Many Business Class travellers will be familiar with the concept of a First Class suite: privacy enhanced by a sliding door, creating an enclosed personal space while travelling. The Qsuite brings that First Class experience to the Business Class cabin — and more. Its full-height sliding door remains the most substantial in any widely flown Business Class.
The Qsuite introduced the industry’s first double bed in Business Class (pictured below), as well as private cabins for up to four people, with privacy panels that stow away so passengers in adjoining seats can create their own private room. Even in 2026, with enclosed suites now common across long-haul Business Class, no competitor offers these shared configurations — they remain unique to Qatar Airways.

Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors on the centre four seats allow colleagues, friends or families travelling together to transform their space into a private suite where they can work, dine and socialise together — a customisable travel experience that lets passengers create an environment to suit their own needs.
How do New Zealanders fly the Qsuite in 2026?
Good news on this front: after a period of disruption to Middle Eastern routings, Qatar Airways resumed flying to Auckland in June 2026, operating daily via Adelaide with a Boeing 777 carrying 42 Qsuites. From Doha, Qatar Airways’ network fans out across the UK and Europe — and the Qsuite is very much the norm on these services. It’s rare not to find it between Doha and the UK or Europe, and where a 787 operates a European sector, you’ll generally find Qatar’s other doored suite rather than anything lesser.
The journey through Doha has its own rewards: Qatar Airways’ Al Mourjan Business Class lounges at Hamad International are consistently rated among the finest airport lounges in the world — a genuine part of the experience rather than just a place to wait.
Are some of the seats rear facing?
The Qsuite’s centre seats, configured for two travelling together
Yes — the cabin is configured with both forward and rear-facing seats, and it’s the alternating layout that makes the double bed and four-person configurations possible. The feedback we’ve received from clients who have travelled in the rear-facing seats between Doha and the UK / Europe is that it feels no different to the traditional forward-facing set-up. If you have a strong preference, however, be sure to ask your Fine Travel Consultant for a forward-facing seat.
Do all Qatar Airways Business Class fares include the same benefits?
Not quite — and it’s worth knowing before you compare prices. Qatar Airways structures its Business Class into fare families, and the cheapest “Lite” fares charge extra for seat selection and lounge access. In practice we see very few Lite fares released on flights to the UK and Europe, but it’s exactly the kind of detail to confirm before booking — we unpack the full structure in Qatar Airways Adjusts Discount Business Class Benefits to the UK and Europe.
What’s next? The Qsuite Next Gen
Nearly a decade after the original redefined Business Class, Qatar Airways is preparing its second act. The Qsuite Next Gen begins arriving on new Airbus A350-1000s from late 2026, with motorised sliding doors, a wider seat and bed, new “Companion Suites” that let two window-seat passengers dine facing each other, and a reimagined four-person Quad with movable 4K screens. It will spread further as Qatar Airways’ new Boeing 777-9s arrive in the years that follow. We’ll update this guide as Next Gen routes are announced — and in the meantime, the original Qsuite remains one of the very best ways to fly to the UK and Europe, as we cover in The Best First and Business Class Seats to UK and Europe for New Zealanders.
