Fine Travel Review of Azur Lodge Queenstown

When Fine Travel Consultant Jennie Ready marked a special anniversary this month at the Azur Lodge in Queenstown it was so memorable that she prepared this review of her stay.

I have recently returned from a wonderful stay at Azur Lodge. Azur Lodge is a luxury, boutique lodge located only a 5-minute drive away from Queenstown. Built on a hillside its nine private villas have stunning views of Lake Wakatipu, Cecil and Walter Peak and the Remarkables. Its location is perfect for a relaxing getaway as the hilltop position feels secluded and exclusive, yet very close to all that Queenstown offers.

On arrival we were met and welcomed by one of the wonderful Azur staff members at Queenstown Airport for our transfer back to the lodge (return airport transfers are included in the rate).  Each of the open plan 75 square metre villas has a separate lounge with fireplace, dining area overlooking the lake and mountain and huge super king size bed. The ensuite bathroom has a rainforest shower, his and her sinks and a huge spa bath with opening windows and spectacular views. In addition to the return airport transfers, the villa rates also include town drop off and pick up, daily breakfast of your choice, in-villa mini bar with drinks and snacks, homemade afternoon tea and evening drinks and canapes.

On our first day we wanted to spend some time in Queenstown as we had a High Tea and trip up the gondola organised. We were dropped off in town and then when we were ready to return to the lodge we gave them a call and a car was sent to collect us. The first afternoon that we arrived back the staff had baked us an almond cake and each afternoon we had a different treat to enjoy (crème brulee one day and the most amazing caramel chocolate slice the next).

Breakfast is prepared by the resident chef who will make you whatever you please. Again this can either be enjoyed either in the main lodge or alternatively it can be delivered and set up in your villa.

Evening drinks and canapes are provided and each evening’s we had a cheeseboard and drinks delivered to our villa (they are delivered in a gorgeous picnic basket). If you are watching a movie you can also ask for some popcorn.  Dietary requirements are well accommodated for and you just need to let the lodge know prior to arrival.

There is no restaurant on-site, however meals can be ordered in from local restaurants. The meals are then plated up by the Azur Lodge team and served in your villa so you can enjoy a private, relaxing meal with stunning views. Alternatively, if you prefer to dine out in one of Queenstown’s many restaurants complimentary transfers to and from town can easily be organised.

The Azur Lodge team have certainly thought about all the details from aromatherapy burners with essential oils, Linden Leaves amenities, placement of the bed so you wake up to stunning views, the amazing bathroom with its huge bi-fold opening windows and even a hair straightener (the first time I have seen this provided in a room).

The location of Azur Lodge is certainly a huge drawcard as it is stunning and has breathtaking views, however I would definitely say it is the Azur Lodge team who make your stay so special and memorable. They made us feel welcome and well looked after from the minute we arrived.

Our stay at Azur Lodge was absolutely amazing and we didn’t want to leave. With its stunning location and amazing views, outstanding guest service and beautiful, spacious villas I would highly recommend putting it on your bucket list.
