Inside Cunard's Grill Suites: the ship within a ship

If you’ve decided you’d rather not sacrifice the experience to save a little, Cunard’s Grills are where the line quietly raises its game. Here’s what sets them apart — and the difference between Princess Grill and Queen Grill.

Every Cunard Queen carries a secret in plain sight. Alongside the elegant Britannia accommodation that most guests enjoy, there is a more exclusive world reserved for those in the Grill Suites — a collection of suites with their own restaurants, their own lounge, their own sun terrace, and a level of personal service that feels less like a cruise and more like a private members’ club at sea.

For travellers who value comfort and don’t want to spend the journey wondering whether they could have done it better, the Grills are Cunard’s answer. There are two tiers — Princess Grill and Queen Grill — and while they share the same exclusive spaces, each offers something a little different.

What every Grill guest enjoys

Whichever tier you choose, stepping into the Grills opens a set of doors that stay closed to everyone else on board:

Your own restaurant. Grill guests dine in the dedicated Queen Grill or Princess Grill restaurant — single-seating, so there are no fixed dining times. Arrive when it suits you, at a table that’s always yours.

The Grill Lounge and Grill Terrace. A private lounge and an exclusive outdoor terrace, reserved for Grill guests alone — the quiet corners of the ship that most passengers never see.

Concierge service. A dedicated concierge to handle the details — dining, shore plans, requests large and small.

A suite, not a stateroom. More space, a bath and shower, a speciality coffee machine, Penhaligon’s toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, and a thoughtful welcome on arrival.

Priority throughout. Priority embarkation, the freedom to disembark at your leisure, and priority tender services where they apply.

Princess Grill: the gateway to the Grills

Princess Grill is your entry into this more exclusive world. You’ll stay in a spacious suite with a furnished private balcony and ocean views, dine in the intimate Princess Grill restaurant whenever you choose, and enjoy full run of the Grill Lounge and Terrace, with a concierge on hand throughout. A warm welcome of sparkling wine and chocolates sets the tone, and thoughtful touches — a pillow concierge menu, opulent bathrooms with Penhaligon’s toiletries, 24-hour room service — round out the experience. For many guests, Princess Grill is the sweet spot: all the exclusivity of the Grills, in beautifully judged measure.

Queen Grill: the very best on board

Queen Grill is the pinnacle of Cunard accommodation — the largest, most lavish suites on the ship, and a level of service to match. Everything Princess Grill offers is here, with a few defining additions:

Butler service. A personal butler in addition to your concierge — the touch that defines the top tier.

Champagne, canapés and a stocked bar. A welcome of Champagne and chocolates, pre-dinner canapés, and a complimentary bar stocked with wine or spirits of your choosing.

The finest suites afloat. The most generous accommodation on board, with the highest priority for tender services on every ship.

In the Queen Grill restaurant, the kitchen will happily prepare dishes beyond the menu — a quiet flourish that captures the spirit of the tier. If your idea of a perfect voyage is one where nothing is too much trouble, this is it.

The named suites, ship by ship

Within the Grills, the grandest accommodation carries its own names — and they differ across the fleet. The Princess Grill suites sit at the entry to the Grills world, while the Queen Grill suites range from generous to genuinely palatial:

Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth & Queen Anne. The Queen Grill suites here are the Penthouse Suites, the Master Suites and the Grand Suites — the most spacious accommodation on each ship, each with a private balcony and the full attention of a butler.

Queen Mary 2. As Cunard’s flagship ocean liner, she carries the most lavish suites in the fleet: the two-storey Grand Duplexes and Duplexes, the Royal Suites and the Penthouse Suites — accommodation built for the grandest of crossings.

Below these, the Princess Grill Suites across all four Queens offer a furnished private balcony, the freedom to dine in the Princess Grill restaurant, and full access to the Grill Lounge and Terrace — the same exclusive spaces enjoyed by Queen Grill guests.

Which Grill is right for you?

Both tiers deliver the heart of the Grills experience — the exclusive restaurants, the private lounge and terrace, the concierge, the suite. Princess Grill gives you all of that in elegant proportion. Queen Grill adds the butler, the Champagne welcome, the canapés, and the largest suites on the ship for those who want the absolute best. On a long voyage — a World Voyage sector, or a Transatlantic Crossing where the ship itself is the destination — the Grills transform the journey entirely.
